This week has been a milestone in my creative journey, as I’ve successfully completed my short film, an achievement I’m proud of. Seeing my vision come to life exactly as I intended has been both rewarding and eye-opening. I’ve gained hands-on experience with key filmmaking techniques, from colour grading to audio manipulation, and learned how subtle adjustments can drastically shift the mood and tone of a piece.
Receiving feedback from my lecturer helped me recognize areas for refinement, particularly in making the film more accessible to a wider audience. I’ve begun addressing this by adding more context like naming the location and introducing interviewees to the credits. This small addition enhances the storytelling and brings clarity to my film.
Taking my project a step further, I explored how my film could function as an advertisement. Researching Red Jet’s onboard advertising options led me to consider various ways my work could be showcased, from digital screens to ferry murals. To visualize this concept, I created mock-ups, experimenting with how my film might appear in different formats.
Additionally, I explored typography and poster design, translating the essence of my film into static visuals. While I feel the project works best as a film, it was exciting to see how it adapted across mediums. Overall, this week has solidified my confidence in filmmaking and expanded my understanding of visual storytelling beyond just motion.
