I started adding sound by focusing on sound effects first. I sourced them from Freesound.org, a site I often used during my animation degree. While the sounds are free and don’t require crediting, I chose to credit one as I felt it was the right thing to do.
I spent time searching for effects that matched the movement of the text and animation. In the end, I chose a ping-pong ball sound for one effect, a typewriter sound for some of the text, and an ambient background effect for parts of the animation. Initially, I planned to add background music, but during editing, I found that ambient sound worked better on its own. Since the animation is short, music would have felt unnecessary and could have made the piece seem even shorter. The ambient sound, however, added depth without distracting from the visuals.
I adjusted the audio levels for each effect, something I had experimented with during my degree but never explored in detail, so this part of the process was still quite experimental. However, adding sound ended up being smoother and faster than I expected. Now, all that’s left is to export the final piece and prepare it for upload. While I could have experimented more with music, I felt the project was at a strong point. Adding more might have overcomplicated things, so I made the decision to step back and finalize it.
Here is a small blurry clip, as that's all I can upload on the free version of Notion.
