Ideas for animation concept.

Now that my chosen mediums are in place, I began exploring different possibilities for my short animation by experimenting with photography.

Exploring Texture in Animation.

I’m considering an animation that focuses on the interplay of different textures. By combining photography, charcoal, and other mediums, I can experiment with how they transform, burning, melting, or blending into each other.

This approach would allow me to explore how texture influences movement and storytelling in animation. To start, I’ve done some photography experiments (see below) to see how different textures interact visually. This will help me decide how to bring them to life through animation.

The Train Concept.

I really like the idea of using a moving vehicle, like a train, in my animation. Movement will help blend different mediums together smoothly, making the transitions feel more natural and seamless.

To explore this idea, I went out and photographed a train track. My plan is to animate a train traveling along the track, using a mix of different mediums for each frame. Beyond just movement, the train also feels symbolic—it represents the constant evolution of skills as a designer, always progressing and adapting, just like a train that never stops moving forward.

I’ll attach some of the photos I captured for this concept.

The Jump Concept.

Another idea I had was to animate someone jumping, using multiple mediums layered over photography. For this, I plan to take photos of a person actually jumping and then incorporate both photographic frames and other artistic mediums into the animation.

I was drawn to this idea because movement will make the animation easier to create and feel more dynamic. Jumping could also serve as a symbol, maybe representing progress, change, or taking a leap forward.
