Here’s my idea developed to this point. It’s been adapted to what I think would be most hireable, which is something I looked at last week while researching companies like Spotify and thinking about what would actually be useful for my CV, rather than just focusing on what I enjoy doing or what looks the most fun.
That said, I know I need to keep myself interested enough that I won’t mind working on the same project for the next 10 weeks. So, I still went with the idea I enjoyed the most, which is Surviving the Underground (working title), but I’ve tried to plan it in a slightly more practical way.
Instead of a comic, I’ve gone for a graphic, colour and text-only zine. I’ve also started planning a motion graphic piece to be used as advertising, something that could be displayed on digital panels across the Underground.
I might still be creating a website, I’m also still thinking about the idea of a pop-up shop, but I’m not fully decided on that part yet.
So here’s a small breakdown of what I think I’m going to create, still with room to adapt the idea as I go along.
For the pitch deck, I’ve been deciding between two options: creating a website or designing a quirky pop-up retail experience. A website could be the easier route, as it’s something I’ve done for myself a few times before, so I already have some experience with that.
However, I’ve decided to develop the pop-up idea for now, as I think this project could be a great opportunity to challenge myself and learn something new that’s outside my comfort zone.
The pop-up could be a fold-out, suitcase-style stand, something that looks like a lost property desk or an info booth. Alternatively, it could be as big as one of the London tourist shops you see around the Underground. But I think I’d be more inclined to go with a smaller stand, as it could be placed in and around Underground stations, making it easy for people to quickly grab a copy before jumping on a train.
It Could sell: (still on sure on this)
This Would be my "business model" in the pitch deck: a small publishing/design label that brings humour, empathy, and great Graphics to public spaces.
