Navigating public transport can be an overwhelming experience for neurodiverse individuals, particularly those with conditions like dyslexia, ADHD, and autism. Standard travel guides and signage often fail to address the unique challenges that these individuals face, such as difficulty processing written information, sensory overload, or the need for clearer, more structured guidance. The Surviving the Underground brand seeks to fill this gap by offering accessible and supportive travel resources for neurodiverse people across various forms of public transport in the UK, starting with a guide for the London Underground tailored specifically for individuals with dyslexia. The ultimate goal is to create a broader suite of guides for other transport systems, such as taxis, buses, and trains, to empower neurodivergent individuals to travel independently and confidently.
The brand behind this project is focused on creating travel guides for neurodiverse individuals to help them navigate various forms of public transport across the UK, from taxis and buses to trains, trams, and the London Underground. The aim is to provide clear, accessible, and supportive resources for people with different neurodivergent conditions, such as dyslexia, ADHD, and autism.
For this specific project, I am focusing on creating a guide for the London Underground tailored to individuals with dyslexia, but the ultimate goal for the brand would be to offer guides for all modes of public transport, helping neurodiverse people feel more confident and independent while travelling.
The primary goal of my project is to create a travel guide for the London Underground specifically designed for individuals with dyslexia, as part of the Surviving the Underground brand. This guide will aim to make navigating the Underground more accessible and less stressful for neurodiverse individuals by providing clear, intuitive, and supportive instructions. Through this specific example, the project will demonstrate the potential of the broader Surviving the Underground brand to offer inclusive travel resources for neurodiverse people across different modes of public transport in the UK. The overarching goal is to empower neurodivergent individuals to navigate urban spaces with greater confidence and independence.
