Week 3 Lecture : Ownership.
Todays Lecture is on Ownership, We looked at our tutors book designs and she talked us through the process of creating and selling. I took some notes i felt were important to me and did a little further research after the lecture, which i noted below.

After my lecture this week, I looked into the work of Noma Bar (suggested by my tutor). Noma is a graphic designer and illustrator born in 1973. His style is really clever, especially the way he uses negative space to create bold, meaningful images. His work has been featured in big publications like Time Out London, the BBC, The Observer, and The Economist. He’s done over 100 magazine covers and more than 500 illustrations, which is pretty impressive. He’s also made three books of his work, Guess Who, Negative Space, and Bittersweet, which is a big five-part collection.
Noma Bar has won several awards too. He got a Gold Clio Award for an animation project he did for New York-Presbyterian Hospital, which focused on new cancer treatments. He also won a Yellow Pencil from the D&AD Awards.
Finding Noma Bar’s work was a bit tricky since there’s no official website for him. I had to rely on Google search and scroll through images to get a good look at his art, which felt a bit different from browsing a curated website. Seeing his work this way gave me more of a spontaneous, almost “pop-up” feeling as I discovered it. There’s a lot of bold, striking visuals, often using strong contrasts, especially with red and black. The use of these colors seems to emphasize the graphic nature of his work, making it feel dynamic and energetic. The way he plays with negative space is also really clever, giving his pieces a depth that draws you in. Although this is not an artist i feel particularly inspired by, i still enjoyed looking at what he creates.
