Finding my niche within identity.

Lecture considerations.

Feedback from my Tutor.

“I should first point out that the Studio Practice brief is weeks 1-4. While it's usual, as you know, to keep one, two or even three assignments running concurrently, as we did in GDE731, do regard the timings as significant and make sure that Assignment 1 is doable 'in four weeks' with the bulk of the module dedicated to Assignment 2.”

“You've chosen a very interesting and worthwhile subject. I understand that we're right at the very beginning, day one in fact, even so do try and think about how you may focus your idea so that your objectives are achievable. This is a huge and far-reaching subject, one that could easily be a lifetime's work! It's fine to zone in on a particular niche area/audience, my concern is that you don't take on too much in the time available to do it. We can discuss this as you progress.”

Project Concept:

Portable Hostel Kit – “Identity to Go”

The Portable Hostel Kit is a travel brand designed to give people a sense of comfort and identity while moving through temporary spaces. Hostels and shared accommodation often strip away individuality: bunks look identical, fridges, kitchens and bathrooms are shared. This project responds to that lack of personalisation by creating a set of designed items that help travellers “claim” and customise their temporary environment.

The kit would be small, lightweight, and designed for mobility. Each item would function as a practical tool and a symbolic reminder of home, offering travellers a way to stabilise and express themselves wherever they are.
