Lecture introduction

For the 10th lecture we continue to present our creative practitioner interview series, offering insight into identifying, developing, project managing and completing an industry focused project.

This week the creative practitioners answer the following:

– Please identity and explain a development process / activity where you had to evolve a more revolutionary approach to solve a project.

Snapshot

The conversation revolves around various design projects, including a hypothetical scenario for autonomous driving, a campaign for Canary Wharf, a visual identity redesign for Amsterdam Sinfonietta, and the importance of agile design processes.

Key findings

The key findings are that people have strong opinions about autonomous driving and its potential impact on society, and that design can play a crucial role in shaping this future. Additionally, the use of algorithms and machine learning can lead to innovative design solutions, such as the campaign for Canary Wharf.

They have all their bright minds put, put in the space, and obviously they change from building big ass cars to interface designs, to, kind of, experiential design, where it all goes back to the human again, at least this is, this is the idea, and they are constantly thinking, obviously, about, like, autonomous driving, and tech, technology and they asked us if we have an idea, like, they had no brief or anything

There was only, kind of, a client who was willing to do some, something, something, you know, and we had to, we had to come up with an idea but what we did at that point was, was very nice for us because we were not interested in cars, like, nobody was interested in cars, so this is primarily not the domain where we have a personal connection with.

Objectives

The objectives of the design projects vary, but they include exploring the potential of autonomous driving, creating a campaign for Canary Wharf, redesigning the visual identity of Amsterdam Sinfonietta, and improving digital products and platforms.

Methods

The methods used in the design projects include hypothetical scenario planning, algorithm-generated design, and agile design processes.

Results

The results of the design projects include a deeper understanding of human interaction with machines, a successful campaign for Canary Wharf, a redesigned visual identity for Amsterdam Sinfonietta, and improved digital products and platforms.

Conclusions

The conclusions drawn from the design projects are that design can play a crucial role in shaping the future of autonomous driving and other industries, and that innovative design solutions can be achieved through the use of algorithms and machine learning.
