Design Development Week — Key Notes
1. Feeling stuck is a normal stage in the process
You now have a large amount of research and must refine it. This stage is about distilling, editing, and making decisions.
Key strategies:
- Look beyond the main theme for cultural, thematic and unexpected connections
- Identify what you do not want your project to become
- Define what makes your idea distinct from existing work
2. Test and communicate your ideas
The ability to clearly explain the project develops through practice.
Recommendations:
- Present the concept to someone unfamiliar to identify strengths and weak points
- Focus on clarity of communication, not just aesthetics
- Include development work, not only finished visuals
3. Manage your time with discipline
Parkinson’s Law: work expands to fill the time available.
Actions to take:
- Set short, realistic deadlines
- Prioritise the core strategy of the project
