When thinking about the design I wanted the blanket to have and mulling over the theme of comfort and home in my head, I kept thinking back to my childhood blanket and how we all had one, mine was yellow with large blue stitching around the edges.

I’ve done my research and I know that statistics from the Broke Backpacker website states that 2/3 of backpackers are 20-25 years old. Also, I know it’s estimated that 45 million backpacking trips are made annually worldwide - this is stated on Hotelagios website. That means that 30 million 20-25 year olds backpack each year. I am specifically targeting the UK audience with my brand though. So, if The Backpacker Job Board states that the US takes up 29.13% of all backpackers, that means that my audience would equate to around 8.7 million backpackers.

This data confirms that my idea to create travel blankets that mimic the style of the early 2000s for that age group, is a potential project. My target audience is 20-25 year old backpackers and I have an audience of 8.7 million, which is a huge market. Therefore, the next step is to start my research.
